BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Next Stamina) — Kent County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered two deceased individuals inside a vehicle at the Maplewood Mobile Home Park on March 24, 2026. Authorities arrived at the scene at approximately 2:30 p.m. following reports of two unresponsive people inside a car parked in a community lot.
Upon arrival, deputies identified the deceased as a 38-year-old female and a 16-year-old female. According to investigators, both individuals appeared to have been deceased for an extended period of time. A strong smell of exhaust was noted near the vehicle at the time of the discovery.
Preliminary findings indicate the mother and daughter were temporarily sleeping in the vehicle. This arrangement was due to an unspecified condition at their primary residence located within the same mobile home park.
Detectives who examined the vehicle reported that the floorboards and the exhaust system were in “poor condition.” Based on these mechanical findings, investigators currently believe the deaths may be the result of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. The Kent County Sheriff’s Office stated that no foul play is suspected at this time.
The Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene to take custody of the bodies. Autopsies will be conducted to determine the official cause and manner of death for both victims.
The investigation remains ongoing. Officials have requested that anyone with information contact the KCSO at 616-632-6125 or submit a tip through the county website.
