The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office and Yolo County Animal Control are investigating a March 14 dog attack at Campbell Park that resulted in the death of a 14-year-old rescue dog, CBS Sacramento reported.

The incident occurred on a Saturday when Tom Bowler was finishing a walk with his dog, Petey. According to Bowler, a loose dog described as a pit bull ran from the garage of a neighboring home and attacked.

The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the death was caused by an off-leash dog near the park.

In a statement regarding the incident, the District Attorney’s Office issued a reminder to the public to maintain control of pets, specifically those known to be aggressive.
