Lakewood Police Department agents arrested five individuals this past Saturday following a narcotics investigation near the intersection of West Colfax Avenue and Teller Street. While patrolling the area, agents observed open-air drug use and deployed a drone to monitor three separate hand-to-hand transactions before moving in to contact the suspects.
Upon contacting the primary suspect, authorities recovered 41 individual packages of fentanyl. Agents also seized suspected methamphetamine and an undisclosed amount of cash during the operation.
The investigation expanded as agents identified and arrested two additional individuals at the scene who were found to have active felony warrants. In total, five arrests were made during the Saturday patrol.
The Lakewood Police Department highlighted the use of technology in the operation, noting that the drone allowed them to document the transactions in real-time. The department emphasized its focus on removing narcotics from public spaces to ensure community safety.
“We are dedicated to removing these dangerous substances from our streets because your safety is our top priority,” the department stated.
The operation was conducted by agents assigned to the Colfax and Teller patrol area. No further details regarding the identities of the five suspects or their specific charges were immediately released.
