Four people injured in five-car crash in Winnetka neighborhood of Los Angeles

A Saturday night commute turned chaotic in the Winnetka neighborhood of Los Angeles after a five-car pileup left four people injured.

The crash was reported at 9:54 p.m. at 20232 W. Vanowen St., near Oso Avenue, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton, NBC Los Angeles reported.

One victim, a man estimated to be 40 years old, was trapped inside a vehicle and sustained critical injuries. Firefighters utilized equipment to free the man from the wreckage.

According to Middleton, the medical status of the remaining three victims includes one patient in serious condition and two patients in fair condition.

The ages and genders of the three additional patients were not available at the time of the report. All four individuals were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment, Middleton added.

Aerial footage from SkyCal showed multiple mangled vehicles in the center of the street, CBS Los Angeles reported. Dozens of onlookers remained at the site while first responders processed the scene in the immediate aftermath.

The cause of the collision was not immediately known. Investigators have begun an inquiry to determine the events leading up to the crash.
