WASHINGTON, D.C. (Next Stamina) — A United States Park Police (USPP) officer was shot in the line of duty Tuesday evening in Southeast Washington, D.C.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. near 5046 Queens Stroll Pl SE. Following the shooting, the officer was transported by a USPP helicopter to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The United States Park Police confirmed the shooting, noting that the officer’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
Federal and local authorities have cordoned off the area surrounding Queens Stroll Pl SE as the investigation into the identity and motive of the shooter remains active.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the bureau’s involvement in the case.
“The FBI is actively supporting the investigation alongside our law enforcement partners and will bring those responsible to justice,” Patel stated. He added that he was “praying for the Park Police officer shot in Washington, D.C.”
Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser addressed the incident, highlighting the coordination between various agencies during the emergency response.
“Our prayers are with the officer for a quick recovery and we are grateful for all our law enforcement officers and first responders for their quick response,” Bowser stated.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released information regarding potential suspects or arrests.
