One driver dead, one critical condition in Greater Grand Crossing vehicle crash on South Chicago Avenue

A man died following a two-vehicle collision in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood Saturday night after failing to stop for a traffic signal.

According to Chicago police, the incident occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. near the intersection of South Chicago Avenue and 75th Street, Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The unidentified man was operating a black SUV when he disregarded a traffic signal and struck a white sedan.

Chicago police confirmed that both drivers were the only occupants of their respective vehicles at the time of the impact. No other injuries were reported from the scene.

Emergency responders transported both individuals to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

The driver of the black SUV was subsequently pronounced dead. The driver of the white sedan remained in critical condition following the transport.
