BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (Next Stamina) — A Robinson R44 helicopter crashed into a vacant warehouse near the 3800 block of South Congress Avenue in Boynton Beach around 12:30 p.m. local time on Monday, March 23.
Authorities confirmed there are no survivors among the two people who were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident.
The Boynton Beach Police Department (BBPD) and Boynton Beach Fire Rescue (BBFR) responded to the scene shortly after receiving reports of the crash.
Upon arrival, emergency crews located the wreckage within the unoccupied structure.
Officials have requested that motorists avoid the immediate area while personnel actively work the scene.
Robert Katz, a veteran pilot and flight instructor with over 40 years of experience, analyzed the flight’s track log.
Data indicated the helicopter’s descent rate increased from 375 feet per minute to 750 feet per minute just before impact.
Katz noted that such figures characterize a “helicopter falling out of the sky” rather than a standard landing, suggesting a possible engine failure, WPBF reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has assumed the investigation into the cause of the crash.
According to officials, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the inquiry and provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
