Chiefs Urged to Pursue Browns’ 1,200 Yard Receiver to Bolster Patrick Mahomes’ Offense

The Kansas City Chiefs need more help at wide receiver after injuries hit several key players. Adding an experienced route-runner could help Patrick Mahomes and keep the passing offense playing at a high level.
Kristopher Knox named Cleveland Browns receiver Jerry Jeudy as a possible trade target. Jeudy’s role has become smaller as rookie receivers have stepped up, so a move to Kansas City could give him a bigger opportunity and help both teams.
Chiefs linked with Jerry Jeudy as receiver injuries create target void
Kansas City beat the Las Vegas Raiders 30-27 to improve to 4-0, but the win cost the Chiefs two receivers. Rashee Rice left in the first quarter with a hamstring injury, and Tyquan Thornton fractured his left ankle in the fourth quarter after a 55-yard catch. Thornton had five catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns before he went down, and he is expected to miss 12 to 16 weeks.

“Jeudy is being ‘squeezed out’ of the offense by promising rookies KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston, who have quickly emerged as go-to targets,” Knox wrote. “While Jeudy did play a role in Cleveland’s latest win, he’s caught just five of eight targets for 62 yards on the season. A 1,200-yard receiver and a Pro Bowler in 2024, Jeudy should interest receiver-needy teams, as should his 2026 base salary of $1.5 million.”
Rice’s hamstring injury appears minor, and the Chiefs have their bye in Week 5 to let him recover. Kansas City is down to four healthy receivers on its 53-man roster: Xavier Worthy, Nikko Remigio, Jalen Royals, and rookie Cyrus Allen. Interest in Jeudy is not limited to Kansas City, as the Indianapolis Colts have also been linked to a trade for him.
Jerry Jeudy’s reduced role puts him on trade radar
That reduced role is a sharp change from 2024, when Jeudy caught 90 passes for 1,229 yards and four touchdowns in his first season with Cleveland after arriving from Denver. Trade speculation around Jeudy continues to build as Cleveland shifts its offensive priority toward its younger receivers.
A move to Kansas City would put Jeudy next to Xavier Worthy and Travis Kelce in Mahomes’ target group, with Thornton out for the next three to four months and Rice recovering from a minor hamstring injury.
Jeudy is not the only receiver on Kansas City’s radar. The Chiefs are also actively pursuing free agent Tyreek Hill, an eight-time Pro Bowl receiver whose agent expects a decision within days. Kansas City now enters its Week 5 bye at 4-0 while evaluating its options.
