Swinney’s tenure at Clemson reached a critical juncture following a devastating blowout loss against LSU in Baton Rouge.
The Tigers suffered a humiliating 51-10 defeat under a storm of questions regarding the team’s offensive plan.

Describing the hiring of offensive coordinator Chad Morris, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney explained that in college sports some choices are difficult but this one was straightforward.
“There are always tough decisions that have to be made in this profession, and though I had to make a couple tough decisions, it was an easy decision to hire Chad Morris,” Swinney said, according to CBS Sports.
The offensive coordinator failed during his previous tenure as Arkansas’ head coach and has mostly served in high school and analyst roles recently.
Swinney also expressed his enthusiasm for the current roster and noted that former star players were highly supportive.
“I think we’ve got elite offensive personnel, and the name of the game is points,” Swinney added, per the outlet.
The program’s reluctance to leverage the transfer portal for an experienced quarterback has also drawn significant scrutiny from sports writers.
Starting quarterback Christopher Vizzina threw a costly interception before being benched for freshman Tait Reynolds prior to halftime.
Clemson leaders now face a difficult path forward given that Swinney is owed an estimated $57 million in buyout money.
