Florida A&M wide receiver Armand Burris balled out and was key in last Friday’s clutch 28-27 triumph over Alabama State.
For that, the redshirt sophomore from Lincolnshire, Illinois, has drawn nationwide praise across Black College Football and the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
On Monday, Burris was named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Week, the BOXTOROW’s HBCU National Player of the Week, and got the same honor from the CFB Network. He was also an honorable mention for Opta Analyst’s NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision Player of the Week.

After getting scarce playing time on offense, primarily on special teams, Burris came up big for the Rattlers in Montgomery. In back-to-back fourth-quarter drives, Burris caught an 88-yard and 89-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Armond Parker.

“That kid has done a tremendous job of coming to work every day,” FAMU head coach Quinn Fordham Gray Sr. said Monday. “Putting his head down, and doing the things that’s asked of him.”
The scores moved the Rattlers ahead in the one-point comeback victory over Alabama State, spoiling the Hornets’ homecoming football game. It was the Rattlers’ first SWAC win of the season, ending their four-game winning streak.
This year, Burris has eight catches and leads FAMU with 242 receiving yards and is tied for a team-high two receiving touchdowns.
