Garrett Wilson needed just three words to explain what the New York Jets‘ upcoming matchup against the New England Patriots means to him. With the Jets preparing for a pivotal Week 6 AFC East showdown, the star wide receiver made it clear that nobody in the locker room is treating Sunday as just another game. Asked about the divisional clash, Wilson offered an emphatic assessment.

“A big-a** game,” he said Wednesday, via ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
The blunt response captured the urgency surrounding a Jets team looking to build on its hard-fought 17-12 victory over the Cleveland Browns. That snapped a three-game losing streak and improved New York to 2-3. With New England sitting at 3-2, the stakes are straightforward. A win would pull the Jets back to .500. It would also give them an early foothold in the AFC East race.
Wilson enters the matchup fresh off an impressive performance against Cleveland. He recorded 104 receiving yards and a touchdown. As quarterback Geno Smith looks to keep the passing attack moving, Wilson will once again be central to New York’s plans. He faces a difficult challenge against a Patriots secondary featuring cornerback Christian Gonzalez. That makes another big outing far from guaranteed. Still, Wilson’s recent production offers reason for optimism as the Jets seek their first divisional win of the season.
New York’s 2026 campaign has already swung between promise and frustration. After opening with a 23-10 win over Tennessee, the Jets dropped three straight before their defensive front erupted for eight sacks against Cleveland. Head coach Aaron Glenn’s team now has a chance to turn that momentum into something more meaningful.
