Longtime Texas football pledge Easton Royal seemingly ended a convoluted recruiting saga Sunday by announcing his de-commitment from Texas and committing to Florida.
Now that the No. 1 receiver in the 2027 class is no longer the centerpiece of the Longhorns’ next class, what’s next for Texas recruiting?
The Longhorns now rank No. 7 in the nation in 247 Sports team ratings after Royal’s defection. The class has still has 21 pledges but only two other receiving commitments, including four-star recruit Briceson Thrower Jr. from North Forney High School in the Dallas suburbs and three-star recruit Kyron Brown from Palo Duro High School in Amarillo.

Texas seems like it could have some snaps for its receiving corps next season, considering current starters Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo both project as early-round NFL picks in next year’s draft. Emmett Mosley V, the Longhorns’ No. 3 receiver, still has two years of eligibility after this season, and freshman Jermaine Bishop Jr. has seven catches for 96 yards and keeps getting more snaps.
But no other receiver has more than three catches for Texas, which is coming off a 27-24 loss to rival Oklahoma Saturday in the Cotton Bowl. The No. 7 Longhorns (4-1, 1-1 SEC) will try and rebound from their first loss of the season Saturday against Florida.
