The recent conviction of Duane “Keefe D” Davis in Las Vegas for the 1996 slaying of Tupac Shakur has intensified demands to solve the murder of Christopher Wallace, known as the Notorious B.I.G.
Wallace was fatally shot in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997, in what many believe was a retaliatory attack for Shakur’s death.
Reflecting on the significance of the Las Vegas verdict, author Justin Tinsley explained the renewed attention on the case.
“The Tupac verdict doesn’t necessarily help solve Biggie’s murder, but it inevitably puts it under an intense microscope,” according to the New York Post.
Highlighting the investigative gap between the two cases, Tinsley described the lack of a self-incriminating figure.
“What separates the two cases is that Biggie does not have a central figure who put himself inside the story,” per the outlet.
To move the case forward, Tinsley suggested the necessity of a breakthrough witness.
“Biggie needs his Keefe D moment,” the outlet reported.
Detailing an alleged murder plot, former LAPD detective Greg Kading recounted a female informant’s story about hiring an assassin.
“Theresa goes and meets with Poochie,” and they “agreed on the amount of money,” according to the outlet.
Describing the final moments of the attack, Kading outlined how the shooting occurred.
“Then the lone gunman, driving a green Impala, pulled up alongside Biggie and shot him,” the outlet reported.
Responding to lingering allegations about his own involvement, hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs denied any role in the death of his close friend.
“I was not involved in the murder of Christopher Wallace,” according to the outlet.
Journalists and investigators remain hopeful that a new confession will eventually break the silence surrounding the decades-old tragedy, per the outlet.
