A 43-year-old worker from West Chester was killed Tuesday morning after a tree fell on his vehicle on the 300 block of Earles Lane in Newtown Square, Delaware County. The incident occurred just before 11 a.m. after storms swept across the Philadelphia region on Monday night.

The victim was identified as Gilberto Sinecio Feregrino. According to CBS Philadelphia, the owner of the tree service company stated that employees were performing maintenance and tending to a tree that had fallen the previous week in a backyard when another tree collapsed and crushed Feregrino.

Authorities clarified that the collapse was not caused by the active maintenance work. “The tree that fell on the employee was unrelated to the work being done by the tree company,” a Newtown Township Police spokesperson said, NBC Philadelphia reported.

Feregrino was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the incident, a medical examiner was called to the 300 block of Earles Lane to conduct an investigation.
