The Lane Kiffin thing has been a blast so far since taking over at LSU.
He’s flourishing in his role as the heel for other teams to root against, and his Tigers have been great, but they have to try winning a road game for the first time all season – the first attempt was a 32-24 loss at Ole Miss.
But for all the hype and attention about the road team, the home side has a shot to take all of the spotlight for itself. Kentucky has won three straight since losing to Alabama, including SEC victories over Texas A&M and South Carolina.
New head coach Will Stein has his Wildcats playing well enough to actually believe they might be good enough to win a game like this.

Why LSU Will Win
The Tigers are wonderful at keeping the chains moving and stopping other teams from doing much on third downs. Kentucky is awful at both.
The Wildcats are dead last in college football in third-down conversions, connecting just 25% of the time. Now they’re dealing with a Tiger defense that’s ninth in the nation, allowing teams to convert 26% of their chances.
LSU is 12th in the country on third downs, converting 52% of the time, and the UK D is 122nd, allowing teams to keep things moving 46% of the time.
Why Kentucky Will Win
Kentucky has to be squeaky clean. Penalties aren’t any sort of a problem, and the five turnovers came in two games – the loss to Alabama and the win over South Alabama.
There are plenty of things the Wildcats need to work on, but they’re taking over games with lots and lots of takeaways. The defense forced multiple turnovers in each of the last four games and ten for the season.
The LSU offensive line will give up plays behind the line, and Kentucky has to force the pressure that forces the mistakes.
LSU vs Kentucky Prediction, Betting Lines
Kentucky will have the energy – the Kroger Field crowd will bring it – and it’ll work for about 20 minutes. But the speed and efficiency of LSU will take over on both sides of the ball. No. 2 in the nation in total defense, No. 3 in total offense, LSU will only be held down by a few turnovers.
It won’t be a bad Kentucky performance, but the Tigers will control the clock for too long in the second half.
LSU 31, Kentucky 20
