Florida football will get a chance to rebound from its first loss of the season when it hosts reeling South Carolina in its homecoming at The Swamp.
The No. 15 Florida Gators (4-1, 2-1 SEC) suffered their first loss under first-year coach Jon Sumrall, losing 45-17 on October 3 at No. 16 Missouri.
“Adversity which we have just faced, and we are facing right now, reveals more about who you are and your character than success,” Sumrall said. “Anybody can have the right attitude when things are going good. How do you move forward and continue to churn ahead and try to get better in maybe some adverse times after a game like last Saturday says more about you than anything.”
Florida is 32-5 in homecoming games since 1989. But to Florida players, getting back on track is more important than homecoming festivities. Florida will play before its 22nd straight sellout and will honor its 1996 national title and 1966 Steve Spurrier-Heisman winning team during the game.
“I really haven’t thought too much about homecoming,” Florida starting safety DJ Coleman said. “I’m really trying to win the game.”
The Gamecocks (2-3, 0-3 SEC) have lost three straight and are coming off a 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky. South Carolina is led by dual-threat quarterback LaNorris Sellers, who has passed for 1,059 yards and 8 TDs this season, while rushing for 391 yards and 1 TD.
