Jazz Chisholm Jr. reveals thoughts on future with Yankees: ‘I do hope to be back’ originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The New York Yankees were eliminated in the ALDS by the Tampa Bay Rays in just three games, getting swept by their division rivals in a wide-open American League.

Considering the Chicago White Sox or Cleveland Guardians are coming out of the other ALDS series, if the Yankees beat the Rays, a World Series trip would’ve seemed likely. Instead, the team is headed home.

But, for Jazz Chisholm Jr., his home is uncertain. He’s set to be a free agent and has an uncertain future. SNY Yankees shared that Chisholm, speaking with reporters after the game, revealed he hopes to return to the Yankees this offseason.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. reveals ‘I do hope to be back’ with Yankees

“I do hope to be back,” Chisholm told reporters and SNY Yankees after the Yankees were eliminated in Game 3 of the ALDS by the Rays.

Chisholm doesn’t want the 2026 season to be the end of his Yankees tenure. He’s hoping to return to New York, though the odds of that are questionable.

The Yankees are also dealing with uncertain futures for Trent Grisham, David Bednar, Paul Blackburn, and Paul Goldschmidt, on top of Chisholm.

They most likely won’t be bringing all of those players back, and with Anthony Volpe and George Lombard Jr. showing promise to end the year, their middle infield might be locked up.

Add in Jose Cabellero, and the option for a cheaper depth option in free agency, and Chisholm might be the odd man out in New York’s infield.

He struggled a bit this season for the Yankees, posting 1.7 bWAR with a .231 batting average, 19 home runs, and a .711 OPS in 137 games played.

Chisholm had a 97 OPS+ on the season, which was the second-worst season of his career since his first full season in the big leagues back in 2021.

Will the Yankees bring him back after such a down year? It’s a big question for the front office. While the Yankees might not bring him back, Chisholm seems to want to return.
