The Indiana Fever’s exit in the first round of the playoffs has led to a lot of criticism being directed at Caitlin Clark, but her fans are not at all backing down.
Clark averaged 20 points and 9.6 assists in the three games against the Las Vegas Aces. She was largely brilliant, but it was the experience of the Aces that helped them get over the line in Game 3.
This was the second time Clark had gotten into the playoffs, and although the opponents were the reigning champions, the Fever ensured they gave them tough competition, and that is what propelled a big Game 2 from Clark, where she dropped 27 points and 15 assists to lead the way for a 99-89 win.
However, in Game 3, she was not at her best, scoring 18 points on 33% shooting from the field and also turning the ball over a game-high six times. Her poor performances led to NBC News publishing an article on her playoff failures, but it had a critical mistake that fans noticed and grilled the publication on X.
Fans criticise NBC after critical WNBA mistake
The article basically pointed out how a star of Clark’s stature had failed to make any noise in the playoffs. However, when it was shared on X, the text with it spelled WNBA wrongly.
“Caitlin Clark is a WBNA megastar for the Indiana Fever, but she has yet to deliver the playoff heroics that is considered the hallmark of true greatness,” the X caption read.
Fans did not take the mistake lightly, and criticised the publication for making an error in spelling the league.
“Is this a fake account? WBNA? What does that stand for? That error in itself tells you everything you need to know about the article and the news organization. Can’t even get the correct sports league, but they know basketball. This people write their own stupidity,” wrote one fan.
Another added, “What is the WBNA?”
Some were completely against what the article was trying to indicate. “Did you not watch the second game of the playoffs?” said one X user. Someone also stated, “Don’t care! She’s true greatness and someone my girls look up to. That’s what sports is about. Who inspires the next generation to dream big? That’s CC – true greatness.”
A passionate fan also pointed out her exploits in Game 2 and criticised NBC for coming to the take of her regression in the playoffs.
“Apparently setting a WNBA record in a playoff game doesn’t meet NBC’s definition of “playoff heroics,” the fan remarked.
