The North Carolina Tar Heels are set to begin a new era under Michael Malone. Following another disappointing season a year ago, the program made the decision to move on from Hubert Davis.

Now, Malone has the task of getting this program back to where it needs to be and recruiting will be a centerpiece in doing that. As UNC continues to host recruits for visits, the latest was a class of 2029 prospect who is in state.

The Tar Heels hosted Grant Duggins earlier in the week as he got to take in campus and meet with the coaching staff. The Greensboro native has seven offers and is projected to be one of the top players in that 2029 recruiting class.

After his visit, Duggins caught up with David Sisk of TarHeel247 to talk about his experience. He mentioned wanting to build that relationship with Malone:

“I talked with him after practice. I loved him. I loved him,” Duggins said. “He was very easy to connect with. He asked about me, and was trying to get to know me. I asked about him, and tried to get to know him. My high school coach and my trainer were there, so he gave us some tips on basketball. It was really good to get to know him. He’s a really cool guy. I’m looking forward to growing our connections.”

That should be good news for UNC fans to hear that. The Tar Heels are hoping the appeal that Malone has as a NBA Finals champ making the leap to college pays off. The relationships he will build with recruits is important and it sounds like he’s off to a good start here.
