Organizers at the annual Burning Man festival confirmed that a second participant has been found dead at his campsite.
The 60-year-old Craigh Mann was discovered deceased on Saturday afternoon by his campmates at the Black Rock Desert site.
The precise cause of death for the attendee has not yet been revealed by local officials or event coordinators.
Expressing deep sorrow, the organization released a statement saying, “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the participant’s family, friends, campmates, and all those affected by this loss”.
This tragedy occurred just days after another man in his mid-50s suffered a separate medical emergency and died at the event.
Confirming that initial loss, the Burning Man Project issued a notice declaring, “It is with heavy hearts” that a participant “experienced a medical emergency, immediately received lifesaving measures” and was pronounced deceased.
Severe weather conditions also disrupted the festival this year as heavy rain forced gates to temporarily close.
Attendees were instructed to delay travel and avoid driving their vehicles in the muddy desert terrain.
These fatalities follow the event’s first homicide last year when Vadim Kruglov was found fatally stabbed inside a tent.
Attendance has steadily shrunk since nearly 80,000 people attended the festival in 2019.
