Prior to the start of the 2026 MLB regular season, just about every national baseball analyst predicted that the Milwaukee Brewers would regress dramatically. Not only did most think that they would finish third or worse in the National League Central Division, but many set their win total in the low-to-mid 80s.
Now, the Brewers are one win away from the World Series.
After finishing the regular season 103-59, the best record in baseball, Milwaukee has taken the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers to the brink. With their thrilling victory on Wednesday night, the Brewers now have a 3-0 lead in the National League Championship Series. One more win will give them just their second ever World Series appearance.

After winning the first two games in Milwaukee, the Brewers turned to rookie left-hander Robert Gasser to start Game Three. He had previously been the starting pitcher in Game Four of the NLDS when Milwaukee defeated the San Diego Padres on the road in order to get to this point in the first place.
The rookie delivered. While Dodgers starter Blake Snell cruised after giving up a leadoff home run to Jackson Chourio, Gasser matched him by putting up zero after zero after zero.
All told, Gasser pitched five strong innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out three. He did not allow any runs.
Milwaukee’s southpaw is the first rookie pitcher in MLB history with a scoreless postseason start against the defending World Series champions.

After Gasser was removed from the game, reliever Abner Uribe gave up the lead by allowing two runs to score. Thankfully, DL Hall bailed him out by limiting the damage. However, the Brewers trailed 2-1.
It did not stay that way for long.
In the top of the seventh, first baseman Jake Bauers battled Snell with an 11-pitch at-bat. He ended the standoff by launching a two-run home run into right-centerfield. Garrett Mitchell followed with a solo home run, giving Milwaukee a 4-2 advantage.
These back-to-back bombs also made MLB history:
The @Brewers are the first team in MLB history to hit back-to-back homers that:
– came in the 7th inning or later
– came on the road
– came off a multi-time former Cy Young winner
– turned a deficit into a lead…in any game, regular season or postseason. https://t.co/fUPqpEIWTC

Never, in the history of regular or postseason baseball, had a team hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning or later on the road off a multiple-time Cy Young Award winner that turned a deficit into a lead.
It truly was a special team performance, and it was just another reminder to fans how special this Brewers team is. Now, Milwaukee will look to Game Four on Thursday night and try to do something just one team in franchise history has done before: advance to the World Series.
