Thursday Dots: Dawg Stompin

Rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb, you know better but I know Dots
Like I told you, what I said, steal your face right off your head

  • As bad as UW’s offense was last week against Iowa, the defensive performance was in some ways more discouraging. The line was pushed around by Iowa’s corn-fed behemoths. The linebackers took bad angles and missed tackles to turn medium runs into long ones. The secondary looked lost and confused against a passing game not known for its innovation. While the offensive struggles have been the devil we know this year, the defensive flatline caught most of us off guard. If the Dawgs are going to put up a fight in the second half of the season, Ryan Walters’ unit is going to have to revert to form. The Seattle Times goes deep on everything that went wrong against Iowa and how the Huskies can fix it.

  • Taking a wider look, Christian Caple put together a midseason report card. Under “the good,” he leads off with the two quarters of Elijah Brown’s QB play and the improved punting game. Those are not the team highlights we were hoping we’d see when we started the season with CFP hopes.

  • While Purdue doesn’t have a gaudy W/L record heading into Friday’s game, they have exceeded expectations and are showing real programmatic development. Dawgman looks into what has worked well for the Boilermakers so far and where there is still room for development in a podcast interview with Sean Williams from Boiler Sports Report.

  • Husky Men’s Soccer continued its strong results with a 3-1 win over Seattle U on Wednesday. The win improved the Dawgs to 8-3-2 on the season. The highlight of the game was a wild bicycle kick goal from Cameron Cruz. It was Cruz’s first collegiate goal and an impressive way to open his ledger.
