Despite missing a few weapons, the Pittsburgh Steelers still found plenty of firepower to beat the Indianapolis Colts, 34-22, at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday.
The Steelers, who improved to 3-2, rode Jaylen Warren’s explosive 188-yard performance and Aaron Rodgers’ three touchdown passes, with the offense short on personnel, especially at wide receiver.
Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington also stepped up, serving as Rodgers’ extra targets. Freiermuth had five receptions for 44 yards and two touchdowns, while Washington had two receptions for 12 yards.

After the game, the 27-year-old Freiermuth flexed his partnership with the 25-year-old Washington and described their performance as “big-time.”
“Selfishly, I think Darnell Washington and I are the best tight end duo in the NFL, and any time we can go out there and utilize our skill sets to the best of our ability, I think we have a pretty good chance to win the game on offense,” said Freiermuth in the video posted by sports photographer Eddie Provident Jr.
I asked Pat Freiermuth after the game how encouraging it is for the tight end room to step up while the team’s thin at WR.

He found the end zone on a 17-yard throw from Rodgers with 6:40 remaining, which practically sealed the win for the Steelers.
Freiermuth and Washington offer a dynamic combination. The former is the more established threat with his guile and reliability, while the latter brings size and physicality.
The Steelers lost Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek in the second quarter due to a hand injury and a calf injury, respectively. They did not return to the contest. Michael Pittman Jr., meanwhile, was inactive due to a foot injury.
The Steelers will visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6.
