After their dominant win against the Arizona Cardinals, an emotional Dan Campbell dedicated the game ball to Lions play-by-play announcer Dan Miller for his tragic loss.
In the world of sports, sometimes it is easy to lose track of the things that matter outside the game. NFL teams are more than the players on the field and their coaches, there are many people involved with the organisations who ensure that the best possible product is delivered to fans.
The Detroit Lions showcased that this week. The team beat the Arizona Cardinals comfortably, scoring a whopping 45 points in the process. However, their play-by-play announcer, Dan Miller, is currently dealing with one of the worst experiences that life can throw someone’s way. After the game, head coach Dan Campbell got emotional while showing his support.
Dan Campbell dedicated the game ball to Dan Miller following the passing of his wife due to cancer
Miller has been the radio play-by-play voice of the Lions since 2005. His passionate calls have provided the voice to some of the franchise’s toughest seasons and their recent resurgence. Miller missed Sunday’s broadcast against the Cardinals following the death of his wife, Cindy, at 63.
During his postgame press conference, Campbell dedicated the game ball to Miller and his family, showing visible emotion as he spoke about the tragic situation.
“This ball goes to Dan Miller and his family,” Campbell said while choking up. “I’m sorry to hear what they went through. It’s been a tough road for Dan. It’s for him. And salt of the earth, man. Dan is salt of the earth. I know this has been hard but now I know Cindy’s at peace. We love you, Dan. Appreciate you.”
One of the things that makes the Lions head coach so amazing is his ability to showcase his passion and his emotions. This is a perfect example of how meaningful it can be, and it is a classy tribute to give someone who has meant so much to the organisation for so many years.
