The Los Angeles Chargers lost their fifth straight game on Sunday, Oct. 11th, against the Denver Broncos, officially making the season a disaster for everyone involved.

How the Chargers lost

In the fourth quarter, with 10:33 left, Los Angeles went for it on fourth down and a yard at their own 41-yard line.

Using their big quarterback, Justin Herbert, the Chargers tried to sneak the yard, but the stout Denver defensive line stuffed them.

The Chargers led 17-10 when head coach Jim Harbaugh went for it, and it became the game-swinging play.

After that stop, the Broncos tied the game, scoring a touchdown on the short field. From then on, the Chargers offense had no answers for what Denver started to build.

“It was the wrong decision,” Harbaugh said. “I can’t think of a time I’ve ever been more mad at myself.

“This team worked so hard and played so valiantly. I take 100 percent accountability for making that decision. It turned the momentum of the game. It was the wrong one and I’ve got to be right on those.”

The real killer for the Chargers was the number of turnovers. Herbert had an interception and fumble in the fourth quarter, the first of which came as the game-sealing play.

“Trying to make a play. We did not put him in the best situation to win the game,” Harbaugh said. “He was fighting to do so and was trying to do everything in his power [to win].”

What is next for the Chargers?

The Bolts take on the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday on the road, and the atmosphere will be tough for Los Angeles as they seek their first win of the season.

More importantly, Herbert needs to cut down on turnovers to build confidence and momentum, and it would be ideal for the offensive line to get healthy.

The Chargers played four rookies on the offensive line on Sunday, and they wore down quickly in the second half.

Defensively, the Chargers should feel good. They don’t create many turnovers, but they play a bend-don’t-break game plan that works and keeps them in the game.

Alleyes will be watching what Harbaugh and his staff can change between now and Sunday.
