Kentucky is the first school to get a fine from the SEC for field storming in 2026.

The conference announced its obligatory $500,000 fine of the Wildcats on Sunday afternoon after fans entered the field after UK’s 35-34 overtime win over LSU.

The SEC announced in the spring of 2025 that fines had been upped from $250,000 to $500,000 for a school’s first field storm of the season. The fines are designed to keep fans from entering the playing field — or court — after a win when the opposing team and officials are still present. Fans are allowed to go onto the playing surface after those people have left for the locker rooms.

The win was Kentucky’s second consecutive 35-34 overtime win. In Week 5, the Wildcats beat South Carolina by the same score on a 2-point conversion. Saturday night, QB Kenny Minchey ran it in for the game-winning conversion.

After the game, LSU coach Lane Kiffin said he expected Kentucky to go for the win.

Kentucky moved to 5-1 with the victory and is now No. 15 in the AP Top 25. LSU (4-2) fell from No. 12 to No. 22.

While LSU has won more than two-thirds of its games against the Wildcats dating back to 1949, it hasn’t won in Lexington since a 33-30 win in 2002. LSU also hasn’t won an SEC game on the road since beating Arkansas in October of 2024. Since then, the Tigers are on an eight-game losing streak.
