The Oklahoma Sooners earned a big win over the previously ranked No. 1 Texas Longhorns on Saturday and had good news awaiting them to start their preparation for Kentucky in Week 7. Oklahoma could get back offensive tackle Michel Fasusi for this week.

Speaking at his weekly press conference, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables said Fasusi is “just about ready” to make his return. Fasusi hasn’t played since the Week 1 win over UTEP. He was injured in training camp but tried to give it a go early in the year.

Now nearly two months from the initial injury and six weeks out from the UTEP game, Fasusi could provide a boost to an offensive line that had arguably its best game of the season in the win over Texas. And that has everyone, even the head coach, excited.

“I’m excited,” Venables said via The Oklahoman’s Colton Sulley. “Everybody’s excited to get another really good player back and he’s worked relentlessly. He’s in great shape. You saw him in pregame, amped up and ready to go.”

Despite missing all but one game this season, Fasusi has joined the team for warm-ups and has been fully dressed and engaged throughout the season. His presence and perspective have impacted the team, even if he hasn’t been able to take the field.

“Nobody wishes they’re playing more right now than Michael Fasusi,” offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle said. “You should see him at practice. He’s always encouraging with great, great energy, great juice. Even whenever we’re at a little bit of a low man, he’s out there just yelling, ‘Thank you, Jesus.’ I’m like, OK, I got it. You’re right. Thank you, Jesus.”

The Sooners may have found some building blocks against the Longhorns in the second half, but have a foundational piece set to return for a big-time, primetime matchup with the No. 17-ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday.
