Colorado’s Deion Sanders clarifies ridiculous special teams blunder during Texas Tech game appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Colorado football team recently suffered a bad defeat at the hands of Texas Tech. Colorado had a bad special teams blunder in the game, where the team trotted out just eight players on the field for a field goal block. Colorado had to call a timeout, and then came out with just nine players.
The Colorado football program has caught a lot of heat for that. Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is explaining what was going on.
“Guys, what happened is a miscommunication….someone thinking I’m saying let’s go block it, and let’s go block it. OK…that could be the punt block, that could be the field goal block….I’ll take that. Two guys went and sat down on the bench and didn’t hear the team that was called,” Sanders said, per DNVR Buffs.

It has been a tough 2026 campaign so far for the Buffaloes. Colorado is 2-3 on the season, and 0-2 in Big 12 conference games.
Things weren’t supposed to be this way. Sanders is under fire from fans after struggling during his tenure at the school. He had two losing seasons in his first three years. Colorado has to find ways to win quickly, in order to get back in the Big 12 conference race this year.
After the Texas Tech game, there were also reports that a Colorado football playbook had been left at a hotel. The playbook was reportedly found by Texas Tech fans. Sanders says he’s not concerned about that.
“If someone had left that, they left it. Mistake. What (are) we going to do about it? It’s over. Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go,” Sanders said, per The Athletic. “Like, we could have the opposing team’s first 10 or 15 plays, but we still gotta stop it.”
Colorado is next in action on Saturday against Utah.
