It’s been a rough couple of years for the Florida State Seminoles and head coach Mike Norvell, and it seems that things just keep getting worse.
In the midst of another disappointing season, the Seminoles have dismissed freshman cornerback Chuck Kennon, their top-rated recruit in the 2026 class.
Top Recruit Gone
Kennon was no longer listed on Florida State’s roster as of Tuesday morning. No further details about the dismissal have been made public, but the school confirmed the dismissal to ESPN’s Andrea Adelson on Tuesday, citing “conduct detrimental to the team.”
Kennon arrived in Tallahassee with plenty of hype. The Sarasota, Florida, native was the No. 56 overall recruit on the SC Next ESPN 300 and the sixth-ranked cornerback in ESPN’s 2026 class.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Kennon played receiver and defensive back in high school. He picked Florida State over Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, and Oregon.
But his time with the Seminoles never really got going. Kennon played just one snap this season, coming on Oct. 3 against Virginia.
Norvell Under Pressure
The timing isn’t great for head coach Norvell, who is already facing questions about his job security.
Florida State is 3-3 and 1-2 in ACC play after a 44-20 loss at Louisville on Friday night, a game in which the Seminoles held an early two-touchdown lead. Norvell is 10-20 since 2024, and the program hasn’t won a regular-season road game since beating Florida on Nov. 25, 2023.
Norvell entered the season on the hot seat, and the team’s performance hasn’t really done much to get him off of it up to this point.
On Monday, Norvell said he hasn’t had any recent conversations with the administration about his job status.
“Have the results been good enough? No. My job as head football coach is make sure the results are better,” Norvell said, via ESPN. “I hate to go through disappointing results. But I understand the frustrations. There’s rightful frustrations. I’m living in it with you.”
The news comes as Florida State prepares for its biggest game of the season as the team travels to face the No. 3 Miami Hurricanes.
