Liverpool still have a lot of work to do to their team.

The Anfield outfit may be unbeaten across all competitions at the moment but, compared to other clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea, their depth is poor.

They may have some of the best players in the world among their starting XI but, especially with the number of injuries that they’re suffering with at the moment, it’s clear that more transfers are needed.

This is why, despite the transfer window not being open yet, the Reds are still being linked with a new player almost every other day.

However, one of the links that have recently emerged could be one of the most exciting rumours yet.

Liverpool want to sign Marc Bernal from Barcelona

Liverpool’s midfield is a major problem area for them at the moment.

The Anfield outfit have been struggling with their midfield for the last few years and, while Dominik Szoboszlai was probably one of the Reds’ best players last term, this didn’t help with the fact that the Reds had no natural number six among their ranks.

Indeed, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch were all used there but, compared to when Liverpool had Fabinho as their number six, they’re much less solid at the back.

This has meant that their defence has been put under a lot of pressure and, while Virgil van Dijk has picked up a lot of the slack, since he’s now 35 years old, it’s unclear how much longer he’s going to be able to do this for.

So, the fact that Spanish journalist Juan Jesus has linked Barcelona’s Marc Bernal to Liverpool is rather exciting.

“As we revealed previously, Liverpool is very interested in Marc Bernal,” he wrote.

“A move in this winter market is not ruled out at all. Iraola is an absolute fan of Marc Bernal.

“With Frenkie de Jong’s return, the minutes are going to decrease drastically for the Catalan youth player.

“Playing time will be a determining factor that will weigh heavily in his decision this winter.”

Marc Bernal is perfect for Liverpool

Bernal may only be 19 years old but, he’s already featured in 44 games across all competitions for Barcelona.

The Spaniard’s main position has been as a number six but, since Rodri joined Barca in the summer, Bernal has been moved down Hansi Flick’s pecking order.

And, while he’s still featured in a fair few games this season, with Frenkie De Jong close to a return to action, the Spaniard is likely to be pushed even further down.

This has obviously caused many rumours to emerge and, since Liverpool are in desperate need of a defensive-midfielder, him being linked with an Anfield switch isn’t all that surprising.

On paper, Bernal feels like the perfect midfielder for Iraola. He runs a lot, has an incredible passing range and he can also win most duels he attempts.

This is one of the main things that the Reds have been missing when using Szoboszlai and Gravenberch as defensive-midfielders this season so, the fact that Bernal can bring that to the squad, helps the deal make sense.

Here’s hoping that a deal can be struck and that Liverpool don’t let Bernal join another club.
