NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin was drafted by the Nets two years ago given how much potential he had, not only as a passer, but as an overall player. Brooklyn has made it clear since they brought Demin into the organization that they believed that he could reach his ceiling at some point in his career and the former BYU Cougar explains how he sees himself.

“I think back to last year in Summer League and even before that on the pre-draft [process] when I was working out with Brooklyn, I’ve been saying at all times to Jordi and the other coaches that I see myself as a very versatile player in the future and that I want to be anywhere I can benefit the team,” Demin said after Thursday’s 114-108 preseason win over the Philadelphia 76ers. Demin seems to be on board with being as malleable as possible.

“I’m a winner, so I want to win as much as I can. If that means for me to have 25 assists and five points, or whatever that means for me, I want to win first,” Demin continued. “Working on certain things obviously helps a lot to be even more versatile whether I’m off or on the ball. That’s the goal, for sure, is being able to be everywhere.”

Demin, who played 22 minutes in Thursday’s win over the 76ers, finished the contest with 13 points and five assists as the starting point guard once again for head coach Jordi Fernandez. The Nets did not have forward Michael Porter Jr., center Day’Ron Sharpe, rookie guard Mikel Brown Jr., and rookie forward Joshua Jefferson available against Philadelphia, meaning Demin had to help forward Julius Randle create the offense for the team.

Since Demin’s rookie season, he has been used in various roles within the offense, whether that’s on the ball and off the ball, as he alluded to in his answer. While Demin was addressing whether he seems himself as a point guard or some kind of off-ball wing, he made it clear that he can fulfill multiple roles for the team and that the goal for him is to be as versatile as possible moving forward.
