At the beginning of the season, Odell Beckham Jr. was able to fight for his spot on the New York Giants‘ 53-man roster. It was great for him after building such a legendary career in New York.
However, things would quickly spiral for him. The wide receiver didn’t get any playing time and eventually was released.
“The New York Giants released Odell Beckham Jr. on Tuesday, after the veteran wide receiver failed to make a significant impact in his reunion with the team. Beckham’s roster spot was in jeopardy because the Giants needed to make a decision this week on fellow wide receiver Braxton Berrios,” ESPN’s Jordan Raanan wrote.
On Wednesday, Beckham found his new home. The Minnesota Vikings signed Beckham to their practice squad.
“The Minnesota Vikings added free agent receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to their practice squad Wednesday, and coach Kevin O’Connell did not rule out the possibility that he will play Sunday at the New Orleans Saints. The Vikings’ top two receivers, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, are nursing injuries, and No. 3 receiver Jauan Jennings has caught only two passes on four targets in his first season with the team,” ESPN’s Kevin Seifert wrote.
During his press conference, Beckham revealed the moment that made him want to join the Vikings. Head coach Kevin O’Connell called him, and the conversation made Beckham feel wanted.
“It seemed as if he wanted me to be here. It always feels better when you’re doing it for somebody where it feels like their heart is there for it,” Beckhman told the media.
Obviously, the two have some ties together from their days with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. The two have some chemistry together, and Beckham will now have the chance to impact a good football team.
For Beckham, it was about going somewhere he felt valued, and that is exactly where he went in Minnesota. He will also be alongside some good receivers who can help him get open by taking up a lot of attention.
