A married Florida mother and her 22-year-old son face felony incest charges after law enforcement officials uncovered an ongoing undisclosed sexual relationship between them in Polk County.
Authorities initiated their investigation following a domestic violence dispute between the two family members at their shared residence in Lakeland.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd stated deputies responded after 46-year-old Christina Clemens called emergency operators to report that her adult son physically assaulted her.
Following his arrest on domestic battery charges, Shane Clemens disclosed details regarding the nature of his relationship with his mother to investigating officers.
The suspect informed deputies that the physical contact had occurred continuously since he reached 18 years of age.
Upon being questioned by law enforcement officers, the mother confirmed the disclosures made by her son during the interrogation process.
Providing descriptive context prior to her statement, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd revealed that when investigators asked Christina Clemens if she had engaged in physical intimacy with her son since he turned 18, she replied, “Only about 100 times. I didn’t stutter,” per New York Post.
Detectives subsequently conducted an interview with Christina Clemens’ husband, who stated to law enforcement that the couple lived together and were happily married.
The husband expressed ignorance regarding the incestuous arrangement, explaining that he had not known about any physical interactions occurring inside the home.
He admitted to investigators that he grew suspicious over time because the pair frequently entered the master bedroom together and locked the door.
Court and jail records show that Christina Clemens was formally charged with one count of incest, one count of living in open adultery, and one count of domestic battery.
She was subsequently released from custody after posting a total bond set at $6,250 on September 4.
Her son Shane Clemens remains held in custody without bond on charges of incest and domestic violence battery.
