Police in Georgia are searching for an unidentified intruder who snuck into a private backyard pool and hot tub.
The overnight trespassing incident occurred between 2:15 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 1 at a home near Savannah.
Surveillance cameras recorded the male intruder taking an unauthorized dip in the pool and hot tub.
While inside the hot tub, the stranger became infatuated with a shades-wearing rubber duckie left behind by the homeowners.
Security footage captured the man spending more than 10 minutes intensely interacting with the novel bath toy.
Describing the intruder’s unusual actions, the Chatham County Police Department outlined the break-in on Facebook.
Summarizing the suspect’s behavior, police wrote, “He trespassed onto their property, used their hot tub, became obsessed with their rubber duck, then stole their pool towels”.
Elaborating on the surveillance video recordings, officials provided further detail regarding the suspect’s obsession.
Detailing the footage, the department noted, “While in the hot tub, the man is caught on video becoming infatuated with a rubber duck”.
A grainy black-and-white camera still captured during the intrusion showed the suspect holding the toy near his face.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the video appeared to show the intruder kissing or gnawing on the rear-end of the toy.
Before fleeing the yard, the intruder stole six bath towels valued at around $200 each, totaling $1,200.
Addressing the unsettling nature of the trespass, police acknowledged community concerns.
Commenting on the unusual case, the department stated, “It’s obviously not the biggest crime we’ve dealt with this month, but it has a lot of ick-factor”.
Expressing their desire to apprehend the intruder, officers added, “So, we’d like to find this guy so he doesn’t do this to someone else”.
Concluding their public appeal, police wrote, “Anyone who recognizes the suspect in the photos or has any information about this case is asked to contact police”.
