A tragic single-vehicle accident on the Ronald Reagan Freeway on Saturday night claimed one life and left three others injured.
The crash occurred at 8:20 p.m. along westbound California State Route 118 near the San Fernando Road off-ramp.
The vehicle veered off the road and plunged down an embankment before striking a tree.
Paramedics arrived shortly after and pronounced one passenger deceased at the scene.
Three other occupants were transported to a nearby hospital.
One occupant remains in serious condition, while another is in fair condition.
Witnesses described the sequence of events as the vehicle veered off.
“The car drove over the embankment, crashed into a tree and came to a stop,” per CBS Los Angeles.
Rescuers confirmed the medical status of the surviving occupants.
“The three other occupants of the vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital, one who was in serious condition and the other in fair condition,” the outlet reported.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Officers closed the San Fernando Road off-ramp and the two rightmost freeway lanes shortly before 9:15 p.m.
No estimated time has been announced for when the resulting SigAlert will be lifted.
