A physical altercation on a residential street in south Minneapolis escalated into a fatal shooting on Wednesday evening.
Officers responded at approximately 9:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire and finding an injured person in the roadway on the 2200 block of Bryant Avenue South.
At the scene, authorities located a male victim suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.
Despite emergency medical workers administering life-saving measures, the victim died at the scene of the incident.
Responding officers quickly arrested a male suspect at the location and successfully recovered a firearm.
Detailing the suspect’s status, authorities announced that the man has been booked on “suspicion of murder,” CBS Minnesota reported.
In describing the initial dispatch, authorities noted that officers went to the scene of a “shooting and a man down in the roadway” on Bryant Avenue South, the tutlet reported.
In explaining the status of the investigation, police said detectives are “working to determine the full sequence of events” that culminated in the death.
Officials are urging anyone with information about the altercation or the shooting to contact investigators via email or phone.
This homicide occurred approximately five hours after a separate mass shooting in the downtown area.
The earlier downtown incident resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left six others injured.
Three police officers were among those wounded in the downtown shooting.
The deceased gunman in that downtown tragedy was facing eviction and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
