New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers is nearing a return to the field following two major knee surgeries within the last year to reconstruct his ACL and fully repair his meniscus.

Despite returning to team drills in mid-August and avoiding the physically unable to perform list, Nabers remains noncommittal about his availability for the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaking on his physical recovery, the receiver cautioned that while he looks completely healthy from an outside perspective, he still has checkpoints to clear.

Sharing an honest assessment of his knee, Nabers described that although he makes everything look well, he still must work through specific cuts and physical contact.

Expressing his mindset about returning to play, Nabers emphasized his absolute focus on being fully prepared for the grind of the regular season, “My mind is focused on playing the regular season, playing whenever that is and playing what team it is,” NBC Sports and CBS Sports reported.

Determined to perform without any restrictions, Nabers added that his main focus is to ensure he can play all four quarters without requiring a limited snap count.

While discussing his route running and recovery progress, the wide receiver noted that he is close to making a full return, “I’m getting there,” CBS Sports reported.

The former sixth overall draft pick was enjoying a spectacular start to his career before suffering his knee injury in Week 4 of last season.

Reflecting on his grueling rehabilitation process, the young wideout voiced strong confidence that he will return better than before and overcome this hurdle.
