A 39-year-old man from East Hampton died Monday evening following a fatal collision between his motorcycle and a truck on Route 66 in Marlborough.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at the intersection of Saner Road around 6 p.m.
Connecticut Route 66 serves as a major east-west state highway and a primary local corridor connecting Marlborough with neighboring communities.
The highway spans more than 38 miles through the heart of the state and links Meriden to Windham.
Investigators identified the operator of the motorcycle as John Russell Forbes 4th.
Authorities indicated that Forbes was traveling eastbound directly behind a Chevrolet Silverado at the time of the incident.
The collision occurred as the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was attempting to make a left turn onto Saner Road.
In an attempt to maneuver around the turning vehicle, Forbes tried to pass the truck on its left side and struck the side of the pickup.
Following the initial impact, Forbes reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and hit the ground.
He sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead by officials at the crash site.
Describing the fatal sequence of events, authorities stated that “Forbes attempted to pass on the left side and hit the truck” before losing control of the vehicle, per NBC Connecticut.
The victim was a resident of nearby East Hampton, which the highway connects directly to Marlborough.
Local police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal evening crash.
