According to Reuters, a U.S. official has said that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) plotted to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to Mexico, Einat Kranz Neiger, starting late last year. The official said the plot was active through the first half of 2025 but has been contained and poses no current threat.

Speaking anonymously to Reuters, the official described the alleged plot as part of Iran’s “long history of targeting diplomats, journalists, dissidents, and anyone who disagrees with them,” warning that it is a concern for countries hosting an Iranian presence.

The U.S. official declined to provide further details on how the operation was foiled. The United States and its allies have frequently accused Iran and its proxies of planning violent attacks against Tehran’s opponents.
