In a significant development today, the Israeli military reported conducting an airstrike in central Gaza, targeting a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). The operation took place in the Nuseirat area, where the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed to have targeted a PIJ operative planning an imminent attack on Israeli troops. The IDF emphasized that the strike was a “precise” operation aimed at neutralizing a direct threat to its personnel.

The airstrike occurred amid a fragile ceasefire brokered by former U.S. President Donald Trump, which has been in place for over two years following the October 7, 2023, conflict. Despite the truce, both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of violations. The PIJ has not yet commented on the Israeli military’s claims regarding the targeted individual.

Witnesses reported that the airstrike involved a drone targeting a vehicle, resulting in a fire and wounding four individuals. Additionally, Israeli tank shelling was observed in eastern Gaza City, though the military has not responded to inquiries about these incidents.

The IDF has stated its intention to continue operations in Gaza to eliminate any immediate threats to its forces, underscoring its commitment to self-defense despite the ongoing ceasefire.
