Mongolia’s ruling party nominated a new candidate for prime minister Sunday following the resignation of Zandanshatar Gombojav after nine months in office.

The Mongolian People’s Party selected Uchral Nyam-Osor, the current party chairman and speaker of the Parliament, during a party meeting. State news agency Montsame reported the nomination, according to the Associated Press.

Uchral joined the MPP in 2009. According to reports, he is considered a compromise candidate intended to bridge different factions within the party.

Zandanshatar’s departure follows allegations of corruption involving one of his senior ministers.

The former head of government also faced a sustained boycott from the opposition Democratic Party.

Opposition members have refused to attend parliament sessions since earlier this month.

The Democratic Party cited concerns regarding a concentration of power within the ruling party as the reason for the legislative standoff.

Uchral Nyam-Osor currently serves as the speaker of the Parliament.
