‘What a scam!’: Fans outraged as Bengaluru tickets for Ind vs WI 5th T20I surge from ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 originally appeared on Cricket News. Add Cricket News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Fans were angry after the lowest India vs West Indies 5th T20I Bengaluru ticket price jumped from ₹1,000 to ₹2,500.

  • Tickets showed as sold out within a minute of bookings opening on TicketGenie.

  • Fans fear black-market sales, and similar complaints have come from Ranchi and Indore.

BCCI and TicketGenie under fire: Why IND vs WI 5th T20I ticket prices increased before sale

The fifth T20I between India and West Indies has been scheduled for October 16 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, and supporters who logged on to book their seats found that the entry-level price had gone up sharply just before sales began.

Banners and early listings on the official ticketing portal, Ticketgenie, had advertised the lowest category at ₹1,000. Minutes before the booking window opened, however, the base price was changed to ₹2,500, which is a rise of 150 per cent.

Many fans said they had no warning of the revision, and the change has left them wondering how the pricing was decided.

The higher price did little to slow the rush. Users reported that tickets turned to “Unavailable” or “Sold Out” within 60 seconds of bookings going live, and that quick disappearance has triggered accusations of a lack of openness and of bots snapping up the inventory.

Some fans also worry that the seats are ending up on unregulated resale platforms, where tickets are reportedly being sold at four to eight times their face value.

Fan reactions: Supporters react to the Ind vs WI Bengaluru ticket row

Social media has been filled with complaints since the sale opened. The first user described how quickly the stock vanished, saying in a short, rather blunt post that nothing was left within a few minutes.

@Deekshi92634465 wrote: “No tickets available. Within3  minutes. Sold out.”

Another supporter pointed to the price change itself, questioning whether the sudden increase was simply greed and asking for clear answers from the organisers.

@rajendraprasa62 wrote: “IND vs WI 5th T20I Bangalore tickets: Banner showed ₹1,000, but now updated to ₹2,500! A massive jump out of nowhere—loot in broad daylight or sheer corporate greed? Fans deserve transparency. What’s really going on? Think about it! #INDvsWI.”

A third user wrote the most detailed post, calling the whole episode a scam and tagging both the BCCI and Ticketgenie. He laid out the sequence of events, from the original price to the last-minute jump and the quick sellout.

@awax_siddarth wrote: “What a SCAM! The India vs West Indies match in Bengaluru. First, the starting ticket price was ₹1,000, then just before bookings opened, it suddenly jumped to ₹2,500. And within a minute of opening, tickets were already showing as unavailable.

How are genuine fans supposed to get tickets? If tickets disappear this quickly, what’s the point of having an official ticketing partner? This only makes people worry about black-market sales. Extremely disappointing. @BCCI  @TicketgenieIN.”

One more fan offered a possible explanation for the speed of the sellout, suggesting that the seats may have been taken in an earlier sale before the public ever had a chance.

@oooonjb wrote: “I think everything was already booked in the member sale or something cause the tickets immediately disappeared.”

The Bengaluru complaints follow similar problems elsewhere in the series. In Ranchi, ticket scalping and black marketing outside the JSCA Stadium led to political complaints and a number of viral sting videos.

In Indore, cyber police have also warned the public about fraudulent sales on secondary platforms, so fans there were advised to be careful about where they buy.
