Nailed on Liverpool move in jeopardy after latest update

Liverpool are in the process of a massive rebuild, with the club still transitioning into a post-Jurgen Klopp era.

Many of the stars signed at Anfield under the legendary German’s oversight have now been moved on, and a new generation of stars grace the pitch in L4 every other weekend.

Despite the high level of turnover behind the scenes at Liverpool since Klopp’s departure was announced, there is still a fairly clear recruitment strategy in place, and some of the Reds’ plans are clear.

One of the most obvious deals Liverpool are lining up is the triggering of Jarell Quansah‘s buy-back clause, but a massive roadblock has just been revealed.

Quansah deal falls apart for Liverpool

When Quansah first made the move to Bayer Leverkusen in 2025, many of the Anfield faithful knew that the youngster would go on to be a big success in Germany, and they have been vindicated since.

The Englishman has been a key figure for the German side since his arrival and has now become a regular for England, leading many to assume that it is almost certain Liverpool will activate the ~£60 million buy-back clause they have with Leverkusen.

According to a new report from Football Insider, things may not be so simple.

The report states that although Liverpool are indeed looking to bring the 23-year-old back to Anfield, Quansah has no plans to return to his former club.

It is stated that the defender is reluctant to make the move and has ‘no interest’ in returning to Anfield.

This will come as a massive blow to the recruitment team and Anfield as, although they hold the buy-back clause, Quansah would need to give his approval for any move to happen.

With over eight months remaining until the clause in Quansah’s deal expires, there is still plenty of time for the Reds to convince the England international to return to L4, but Football Insider’s report doesn’t make for good reading for anyone hoping a deal will be done.

Quansah’s main reservations come from how difficult he found it under Arne Slot to secure regular first-team football, and the early success of Jeremey Jacquet could add to those concerns.

Both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are out of contract at the end of the season however and at least one of the pair is likely to move on from Merseyside.
