Marvin Harrison Jr.‘s tenure with the Arizona Cardinals has taken an unexpected turn, with the former fourth overall pick now heading to a new team in a trade.

The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly finalizing to trade Harrison Jr. to a mystery team, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport. At this time it is not known what the Cardinals will receive in exchange for the receiver’s services.

Schefter noted Harrison Jr. will be inactive for Arizona’s Week 5 game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Oct. 11 (4:25 p.m., Fox).

Once viewed as a potential cornerstone of Arizona’s offense, Harrison has struggled to carve out a prominent role, falling to at best third in the pecking order as the Cardinals reshape their receiving corps. The situation became even clearer when Michael Wilson signed a three-year, $75 million extension, reinforcing the franchise’s commitment to him as a central piece of its passing attack.

Despite the disappointing start to his NFL career, Harrison remains an intriguing talent. His combination of size, athleticism and route-running ability made him one of the most highly regarded prospects in the 2024 draft class, while his Hall of Fame lineage only added to the hype surrounding his arrival in the league.

Harrison’s new team is taking a chance on that potential, giving Harrison an opportunity to revive his career in a new environment. Acquiring Harrison represents a rare chance to add a high-upside receiver, while Arizona turns the page on a once-promising partnership that never quite clicked.

Harrison still has one more season left on his rookie contract, meaning his cap hit is minimal for 2026 and 2027.

The acquiring club would have the ability to retain Harrison Jr.’s’ services for a third year in 2028, provided they pick up the fifth-year option after the 2026 season.
