Long before he was establishing himself as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and making big-time catches at BYU, Puka Nacua was making a name for himself as the best wide receiver in Utah’s high school football history.

By the time Nacua’s senior season at Orem (UT) was over, he had totaled 261 catches for 5,270 yards and a state record 57 touchdowns.

On Thursday night, Oct. 8, that touchdown record belonged to someone else.

With a three-touchdown night in Davis’ (UT) 49-13 win over Layton (UT), Oklahoma four-star commit Bode Sparrow became the state’s all-time leader in touchdown receptions with 59. He’s up to 17 receiving touchdowns during his senior season.

Entering this season, Sparrow was well on his way to breaking the record. He caught 10 receiving touchdowns as a freshman and posted back-to-back 16 touchdown seasons during his sophomore and junior campaigns.

For his career, Sparrow has tallied 273 receptions for 3,909 yards and 59 touchdowns. The Darts are 6-3 on the year and will close out the regular season on the road at Weber on Oct. 14.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder is a do-it-all athlete for the Darts and has been committed to Oklahoma since June 26, when he chose the Sooners over the in-state BYU Cougars.

He’s ranked as one of the top prospects in the country, coming in at No. 80 in the USA TODAY Sports composite ranking and is the No. 5 athlete in his class.
