In the preseason, GametimeCT picked finalists for all four CIAC girls soccer championships. At the midway point of the season, we’re revisiting those predictions.
Teams will still qualify for the tournament based on winning percentage, but a new power ranking that factors in current-season results and league strength will determine seeding.
Here are our picks to reach the finals Nov. 21-22.
Class LL
2025 champion: Greenwich defeated Amity
2026 preseason championship prediction: Amity over St. Joseph
2026 midseason championship prediction: Amity over St. Joseph
Here’s why:
Amity has fared well without the injured Maggie Kershnar, a GametimeCT All-State First Team selection last year who is committed to play at UConn but is out for the season due to injury. The Spartans’ first loss came at Glastonbury on Saturday. Glastonbury is a title contender, Greenwich is a title contender, Ridgefield is a title contender, and Trumbull, Mercy and Notre Dame Prep are title contenders. Amity’s experience from reaching the final last season helps here. St. Joseph has yet to allow a goal through eight games. The Cadets’ offense, combined with that defense, is good enough to reach the final weekend.
Class L
2025 champion: Masuk defeated North Haven
2026 preseason championship prediction: Wethersfield over East Catholic
2026 midseason championship prediction: Simsbury over Wethersfield.
Here’s why:
Despite its early-season struggles, we’re sticking with Wethersfield to reach the final. The Eagles’ three defeats include two to top-10 teams, Glastonbury and Mercy. The back end of the schedule is lighter, so that could help. Simsbury is clearly the top team in the division at this point, having handled every team by at least two goals.
Class M
2025 champion: Foran defeated Northwest Catholic
2026 preseason championship prediction: Foran defeats East Hampton
2026 midseason championship prediction: Lauralton Hall defeats East Hampton
Here’s why: Foran is still good enough to repeat in this division. It will be hard for the Lions to get past Lauralton Hall, which has already beaten them, if both teams are on the same side of the bracket. Plus, Foran has a difficult back end of the schedule. So does Lauralton Hall, with Cheshire twice and Masuk. East Hampton concludes its regular season with RHAM and Bacon Academy back-to-back. The Bellringers are going to be the top seed in the Shoreline tournament, and may be here as well.
Class S
2025 champion: Morgan defeated Old Saybrook
2026 preseason championship prediction: Lewis Mills over Valley Regional
2026 midseason championship prediction: Lewis Mills over Old Saybrook
Here’s why: Valley Regional, the reigning Shoreline Conference champion, has struggled in the first half of the regular season. Old Saybrook’s only loss is to undefeated East Hampton. Old Saybrook’s second-half schedule is definitely tougher, so we will see how the Rams handle things. Lewis Mills has three losses – to Simsbury twice and Farmington – and is ranked ahead of Old Saybrook in the seedings. Playing that tough CCC schedule can only help come November.
