MLB postseason pressure reached another level Wednesday as New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. expressed his confusion after Yankees fans booed the team during a 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. called it “confusing” to get booed by Yankees fans.”It’s the playoffs and we’re trying to win games. You’re booing a guy that’s trying to help the team win.”(Via: @SNYYankees) https://t.co/HADAze4mNQ

“It’s the playoffs and we’re trying to win games,” Chisholm said after the game. “You’re booing a guy that’s trying to help the team win.”

The Yankees were unable to overcome the Rays and were swept in all three games of the ALDS. The series marked the first time in franchise history that New York had been swept in a Division Series, adding to the frustration surrounding the team.

Chisholm, however, did little to give Yankees fans something to celebrate during the series. He finished the game and the ALDS without a hit, RBI or run. His last hit of the 2026 postseason came on Sept. 30, when he recorded two hits against the Boston Red Sox during the Wild Card Series.

The second baseman also made a costly mistake earlier in the ALDS, committing one of the Yankees’ four errors in Game 2.

Uncertain future in New York

Chisholm’s struggles extended beyond the postseason, as he hit .231 with 19 home runs and 55 RBI across 137 regular-season games in 2026. While those numbers provided some offensive production, his postseason struggles came at a particularly difficult time for a Yankees team with championship expectations.

Now, Chisholm’s future with the Yankees is uncertain. The 28-year-old is a free agent, leaving New York with a decision to make in the offseason. The Yankees could extend him a one-year qualifying offer, but it remains unclear whether the organization will choose to do so.

For Chisholm, the immediate disappointment is likely the Yankees’ early postseason exit. For the team, his comments and performance could become part of a larger offseason discussion about expectations, fan reactions and the roster needed to return to contention next season.
