Returning to play for a North Carolina team for the first time since his four years at Duke, former NCAA champion Grayson Allen made his Charlotte Hornets debut Tuesday in a preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets.
Entering the starting lineup for his schoolmate Kon Knueppel, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury, Allen impressed, scoring 13 points in 14 minutes on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting night from beyond the arc.
Another Duke alum, one-year Blue Devil Sion James, showed improved skills from a season ago. With Coby White and Christian Anderson Jr. sidelined due to injury, James took over duties as a backup point guard, running the offense after the departure of Dennis Schroder.
In 17 minutes, James tallied eight points on 50% shooting from beyond the arc to go along with four rebounds.
Now 0-1, Allen, James and the Hornets will return to action Sunday, Oct. 11 against the Milwaukee Bucks.
