Alexander-Arnold makes his case and three other things we learned about England
England ended the international break with a comfortable 3-0 win over Czechia on Tuesday, registering their third consecutive victory in the UEFA Nations League.
England are three points adrift of Spain, who have won their four opening games in the current campaign of the competition.
Read on as we look at five things we learned about the Three Lions during this break.
Trent Alexander-Arnold makes strong case
The Real Madrid defender seized the opportunity to impress in the absence of Reece James, recording an assist in two starts.
Since the start of 2024, he has created the most chances per 90 of any England player, creating at least three chances in six of his nine starts within that period.
He also registered 15 recoveries in his two starts and was dribbled past just once.
Alex Scott is ready to rival Declan Rice
Scott marked his full international debut with an outstanding display during the 7-0 win over Croatia. He was full of energy and produced quality with and without the ball.
Tuchel admitted that Declan Rice will feel his place under threat with Scott’s performance against Croatia, highlighting the impression he left on the German tactician.
Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham are golden
Kane scored in each of the Three Lions’ four games, equalling and breaking several records. Bellingham described the Bayern Munich striker as England’s best player of all time.
Bellingham impressed in the defeat to La Roja, outshining Barcelona midfielder Rodri and in the subsequent games.
Tuchel will be hoping that Kane and Bellingham can reproduce their brilliance in bigger games.
Spain remain the benchmark
England’s only defeat came against the world champions at Wembley, missing the chance to make a huge statement.
Tuchel’s side played well against La Roja, but were undone by their defensive frailties. They will have the chance to make amends for that missed opportunity in November’s clash at the Metropolitano Stadium.
