A new report claims another former AEW Champion is about to hit the pro wrestling free agent market.
With the professional wrestling industry as healthy as itโs been in a generation, the free agent market offers talent a real chance for greener pastures elsewhere. This week it was revealed that both members of The Acclaimed, Max Castor and Anthony Bowens, were now available after their contracts expired. Meaning the former AEW tag and trios champions could sign with promotions like WWE or TNA.
Well, it looks like they will soon be joined by another former titleholder from All Elite Wrestling. According to Fightful, Scorpio Skyโs AEW contract is still set to expire this month, and he has not signed a new deal with the promotion.
Skyโs last AEW match came in July when he was on the losing end of a trios match with Skyflight against the Lethal Twist. In recent weeks, he has competed in AEWโs sister company Ring of Honor. He last competed at an ROH taping, scoring a win over Oro.
Should WWE pursue Scorpio Sky?
If Sky is open to a deal to compete in NXT, WWE should absolutely pursue the veteran wrestler. While the black-and-gold brand usually prefers younger stars, the 43-year-old would still be a strong addition for the brand who can help develop younger talent and prove he is worthy of a future opportunity in the main roster.
The AEW original was once seen as a future main eventer in the company and held the TNT and tag titles during his run in the company. However, CEO Tony Khan never pulled the trigger with a dedicated push for Sky. Due to his inconsistent use over the last few years, that likely is playing a role in why the two sides havenโt extended their relationship.
If Sky isnโt a target for WWE, he would also be an excellent addition to companies like TNA Wrestling or MLW, which recently got a new broadcast deal and has a strong roster.
